That said, I too feel strongly that it should not be against the law to burn any picture. That’s clearly an act of free speech, even if some religious authorities consider it blasphemous. You can’t have such a thing as being illegally rude in a free society. People have the right to insult their leaders as rudely as they need to in order to fully capture the level of their anger about something.

Leaders have a right to know if they’re doing a good job or not, and one way they can tell is by whether or not people are burning their picture. These kinds of displays are necessary for democracy to function properly.
